Spreading health information got a little easier in Uganda in 2009. IICD introduced a text messaging system in the Jinja District of Eastern Uganda to improve rural access to health information and services. This was done together with Dutch non-profit development organisation Text to Change and project partner Health Child.

Through their mobile phones people can find information about family planning; HIV/AIDS awareness, prevention and treatment; and maternal health. The programme includes an interactive text quiz. By answering quiz questions, users gain awareness of health issues and the services available. The quiz is offered in both English and Luganda.
